On October 22, 2015, Turkish Cultural Center Queens organized a lecture about how to obtain the new NY Identification card for all New York City residents. The program began by enjoying light refreshments where attendees had the opportunity to meet with each other and share their perspectives about living in New York.
Neighborhood organizer, Mr. Hanif Yazdi, from the Mayor’s office of Immigrant Affairs, briefly introduced himself and started to present the new exciting ID. Hanif expressed all the process and details about obtaining the card within slide shows. When students heard about the benefits of the card, they immediately began to ask questions. Attendees learned that they can be eligible for one-year free membership package at 33 of the City’s leading cultural institutions, and be able to use public libraries, open a bank or credit account at more than a dozen financial institutions across New York City with this ID. This card also offers discounts on movie tickets, prescription drugs and receive 10 percent discount off annual and six-month NYC Parks Recreation Center memberships.
At the end of the presentation, attendees began to ask questions based on their status living in New York. Thus, guests (who were mostly young students) were pleased to know about this opportunity and were excited to apply for the card. We thank the Mayor’s office for this useful session and we look forward to organize more information sessions about different topics.
