Turkish Cooking Demonstration Byram Shubert Library - September 11, 2010

Manti is a popular Turkish food made up of tiny pieces of dough that can be filled with anything, but usually either meat, pumpkin, potato, or feta cheese. Many countries including Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, China, and Italy have their own variation of this dish, the common thread being that in every country manti symbolizes people getting together to make food. In Turkey, it is even claimed that manti facilities and strengthens relations among people!

Please, join us as we come together to make manti.

On Friday night, we shared a cultural delicacy with our guests, Noah’s Pudding. It was a celebration of a tradition passed down by Noah and a night of friendship and dialogue for all. A presentation about Noah’s Pudding was held which explained the history and importance of Noah’s Pudding to the Turkish people. The guests were also able to see photos of a Turkish family preparing Noah’s Pudding while also listening to how it is made.

On Friday, January 22nd, TCC had organized another fun night event.
Manhattan Cultural Center organizes different activities each week which brought people all around the world. This time is was “Manti Night”. Guest, who had Manti first time, seemed very excited and eager. There was refreshments served with Manti.

 Kirsten Gillibrand, a United States Senator for New York, said she was aware of the importance Turkish schools in New York City attach to science and technology in a speech she made at the center on Saturday.
