Dear Friend:
With both the holiday season and the winter fast upon us, we must be mindful of the 1.4 million New Yorkers who are food insecure and may not know where their next meal will come from.
Yesterday I joined the Turkish Cultural Center of New York and City Harvest to kick off a holiday Halal meat drive. The meat drive commemorates the Muslim holiday of Eid ul Adha which encourages donations of food to the hungry. The Turkish Cultural Center donated 1,000 pounds of packaged Halal meat which City Harvest will distribute throughout Manhattan’s homeless shelters.
As New Yorkers, we must all come together to aid those in need. Yesterday’s display of generosity sets a wonderful tone for a holiday season that I hope will be marked by selflessness and good works across all our City’s diverse communities. I look forward to the work ahead as we continue to raise awareness to help hungry New Yorkers so that everyone may have a happy, healthy holiday season.
Sincerely,

Scott M. Stringer
Manhattan Borough President
