Noah’s Pudding Celebration and Friendship Gathering

Noah’s Pudding Celebration and Friendship Gathering with Calvary Baptist Church and TCCQ

Members of the Turkish Cultural Center Queens recently visited the Calvary Baptist Church to share the tradition of Noah’s Pudding (Asure) with the Church members. It was a lovely gathering of people from different cultures, backgrounds and faiths. Members of the Church were treated to some delicious Noah’s pudding which had been prepared by the ladies of TCCQ and spent some time learning about the tradition.

The Noah’s Pudding Tradition

“Noah’s Pudding” commemorates the common heritage of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. In the Muslim prophetic tradition, it marks two occasions: the day Moses and the Israelites were saved from Pharaoh’s army, and the day Noah’s ark was saved from the flood.

Today, in the Mediterranean region, Muslim and Christian celebrants prepare the flavorful desert made from grains, nuts, and fruits and share bowls with their neighbors. The many, varied food ingredients and the sharing, symbolize how people from different backgrounds can peacefully and productively co-exist.

The event had been organized by TCCQ with Pastor Victor Hall, who is a long time friend of center and who in fact, took part in one of the Intercultural, Interfaith trips to Turkey two years ago.
