IMG_09841The Turkish Cultural Center of Long Island celebrated its 8th annual Friendship Dinner Wednesday night at the Sheraton Long Island Hotel in Hauppauge.

The dinner is held every year to promote peace and a better understanding between Turkish and American culture. Guests included Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano and members of Long Island human rights group Common Ground.

On November 3, 2011, Turkish Cultural Center New York and New York Institute of Technology held “Prince Among Slaves” film screening followed by a panel discussion at the NYIT School of Education Auditorium in Manhattan campus. Prince Among Slaves is an award-winning PBS documentary about the life of Abdul Rahman Ibrahima Sori, a West African prince enslaved in the American south for 40 years. The panel will focus on the importance of Black/African American youth understanding their personal identity and history.

IMG_78891Turkish cultural center and peace islands institute organized a conference, titled “A decade after 9/11, Incitement to hatred and violence on the basis of religion or Belief”. The conference was hosted by the master of ceremonies of the event, composer, singer, and producer, Mr. Tomaczek Bednarek, who opened the conference by beautifully performing the national Anthem which was followed by a moment of silence for the victims of 9/11 and their families.
