IMG_03101Yale University, Sacred Music Department paid a visit to Turkish Cultural Center

Turkish Cultural Center brought together students of Institute of Sacred Music Department, Yale University and  Ahmet Erdogdular ,Turkey’s one of the most prominent vocalist in the area of Ottoman Music and Sufi Music tradition. Peter Daverongton, artist and musician, accompanied him by playing Ney Flute.

 

The program was held on February 4, 2012 at Turkish Cultural Center Manhattan branch. It was started by a welcoming speech and continued by a short video presentation about Turkish Cultural Center and its activities. Afterwards, Ahmet Erdogdular took stage and performed a ‘gazel’ (improvisation). Later on, he gave us an overview of Turkish Classical Music and Turkish Sacred Music by providing comparisons with Western music.  Further in the program, the attendees had a chance to listen various samples of Turkish Sacred Music. Martin Jean, Director of the Institutie of Sacred Music, pointed out that he was amazed by unique range of notes of the songs.

The program came to an end with a very interactive Question & Answer session.
