On January 12, The Turkish Cultural Center and Peace Islands Institute representatives visited Assemblyman Eric A. Stevenson's new office in Bronx, regarding the bill that is considered by the New York Legislature to enact a law establishing a New York Muslim American Advisory Council. During the meeting Mr. Murat Kaval, the Executive Director of Turkish Cultural Centers located in East Coat Region and Ibrahim Sayar, Director of Center for Interfaith Affairs at Peace Islands Institute New York,
shared their thoughts about the bill. Mr. Murat Kaval mentioned the statistics about the increase of "Islamophobia" throughout the United States referring to the researches conducted by the Center for American Progress. He also wished that this bill may be helpful to understand the Muslim Community and their challenges and their needs in a better way. "The bill being the first ever in New York has a vital importance to the Muslim Community living in New York" said Assemblyman Eric A. Stevenson. "With this bill its aimed to develop ideas to improve the business in the community, as well" he added. Assemblyman Stevenson expressed his vision by saying "It will also give an opportunity to Muslim Community living in New York and being the citizens of United States to represent their ideas and thoughts in the Assembly of the State of New York". Mr. Ibrahim Sayar, Director of Center for Interfaith Affairs shared the mission of the Peace Islands Institute and expressed his view for the future of world where there is no hatred and misunderstanding, by saying; "With establishing peace islands we aim to invite all people regardless of their belief and race, to come together as human beings sharing same universal values and try to build a better world where we all can live in peace and harmony".
