Abstract:
This course is designed to give an understanding of Sufism, generally translated as the spiritual side of Islam. This will give us a chance to familiarize ourselves with the ritual practices of Islam. We will also consider how it moves beyond the usual rituals to special gnostic forms called Sufism. We will read some classic Sufi works. We will use texts and a reading list that will help those who want to know more about these subjects. There will be a total of eight sessions. The lecture series will be open to public. A certificate of completion will be given to the attendees who will attend all of the eight sessions and complete a two page final assignment.
